Give and You Shall Receive: Nurture Nature and Be Rewarded On Vacation with RockResorts’ Give & Getaway

BROOMFIELD, Colo. — June 6, 2011 Vacations are personal, customizable and best of all, feel good. Now RockResorts and Vail Resorts invite guests to feel even better on a holiday by getting something back when giving their time on vacation. RockResorts and Vail Resorts Hospitality have announced the return of their volunteer vacation projects and discounted packages for the 2011 “Give & Getaway” program. These enriching experiences – from helping local farmers pick pineapples in St. Lucia to restoring sand dunes in Miami to planting trees and clearing trails in the Rockies – are available in over 15 different places and with a variety of projects. Each Give & Getaway package comes with discounted lodging rates for guests who volunteer at one of the 10 participating RockResorts or at several Vail Resorts Hospitality properties in Keystone, Colo., Breckenridge, Colo., and Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
Give & Getaway is part of the Vail Resorts and RockResorts Echo program that focuses on natural resource conservation and preservation in communities surrounding the resorts.  Projects include restoring trails and sand dunes, working with sustainable farms, helping to improve forest health and supporting local stream and river ecosystems. Guests who book a Give & Getaway package do not pay for the volunteer project, but rather, in exchange for their efforts, receive a discounted lodging rate and complimentary gift. Full-day and half-day projects are available. Participating RockResorts and Vail Resorts Hospitality properties and their package validity dates include:
·      One Ski Hill Place – Breckenridge, Colo (valid 5/14 – 10/9, project dates ongoing)
·      La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa – Santa Fe, NM (valid 6/13 – 6/28, project is 6/20)
·      The Landings St. Lucia – St. Lucia (valid 5/28 – 11/22, project dates ongoing)
·      Snake River Lodge & Spa – Jackson, WY (valid 9/25 – 10/8, project date is 10/1)
·      The Lodge at Vail – Vail, Colo (valid 6/17 – 6/20, project is 6/18)
·      The Arrabelle at Vail Square – Vail, CO (valid 6/17 – 6/20, project is 6/18)

·      The Osprey at Beaver Creek– Beaver Creek, Colo (valid 6/17 – 6/20, project is 6/18)
·      Breckenridge, Colo (valid 5/14 – 10/9, project dates ongoing)
·      Keystone, Colo (valid 2/20 – 9/9, project dates ongoing)
As an example, guests at La Posada de Santa Fe are given an opportunity to work alongside Hyde Memorial State Park staff to trim trees and improve creek banks as part of the Little Tesuque Creek Watershed Restoration project.  Rates for this Give & Getaway program start at $79 per night and include a RockResorts hydration backpack, protective work gloves, two complimentary La Posada t-shirts and a RockResorts Spa hand lotion to soothe your hands after the work is done. Bookings for the La Posada de Santa Fe package must be made by June 13, 2011.
In addition to the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and give back as part of a Give & Getaway program, Vail Resorts and RockResorts have other ways to give back. The company has formed partnerships with conservation organizations and nonprofits at most of its resorts and allows guests to contribute $1 per stay or $1 for lift tickets or season passes that’s matched by the organization. In Colorado and Tahoe, the company has partnered with the National Forest Foundation for this guest donation program and has raised nearly $2 million to help local conservation efforts and restoration projects in the White River National Forest in Colorado and the Lake Tahoe Basin in California and Nevada. Other partnerships include Hyde Memorial State Park in Santa Fe, NM; Surfrider Foundation in Miami, FL; Reef Check and Pack for a Purpose in the Dominican Republic; and Montego Bay Marine Park Trust in Jamaica.
For more information on Vail Resorts’ partnership with the National Forest Foundation (NFF) and other non-profits, visit the RockResorts Press Room or Vail Resorts Echo website.
Nightly rates for the Give & Getaway program start at just $79 per person, per night, and vary by resort. Rates are based on double occupancy for a minimum two-night stay (the night before and the night of the project). Several resorts are extending the rate both before and after the projects as a courtesy to guests. Guests ages 16 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The “Give & Getaway” package must be booked at least one week prior to the project date. Give & Getaway lodging rates are available to all who participate in the designated volunteer projects. Other restrictions may apply.
